I’m obsessed with my air fryer, and it’s now hands-down my favorite way to cook fish, tofu, meats, and some vegetables. And now I love to air fry frozen salmon. Air fryers have soared in popularity in the past few years and for a great reason. With an air fryer, you get that outer ‘crispy’ taste without the deep fry.

I’ve cooked chicken, tofu, broccoli, and more in the air fryer. Then I discovered I could air fry frozen salmon. It cooks it perfectly in just minutes, even from frozen. Since I live in Pittsburgh and fresh fish is hard to come by, this is a big win!

For frozen salmon, cook it for about half the time first, then add the seasoning or marinade and cook the remaining time. This way, the salmon is thawed and able to absorb the flavor. Thawed salmon works great in the air fryer too, simply reduce the cooking time. I’ll get into that below.

Types of Air Fryers

Air fryers are great if you are trying to eat healthier. There are a few different types like the air fryer convection oven, or what I have, the electric basket (both linked below). The convection ovens are similar to toaster ovens. They have racks to place food and the added air fryer cooking method as an option. The basket ones look similar to a deep fryer, thus they hold the food.

Now, let’s get into how to air fry frozen salmon! I used my favorite teriyaki salmon marinade for this recipe. Combine, low sodium soy sauce, chopped garlic, and lemon juice and you have an easy teriyaki marinade. Lightly seasoned, crispy zucchini made the perfect side to this savory salmon. I cooked the zucchini in my oven since I have a small air fryer, but air frying the zucchini is amazing!

Ingredients

  • 2 (5 oz) fillets wild alaskan salmon (or your favorite)
  • 2 tbsp low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tsp pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • extra virgin olive oil cooking spray

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer for 3-5 minutes to 390F.
  • Add frozen salmon, skin side up to air fryer basket. Cook for 7 minutes.
  • In a small bowll, mix together soy sauce, maple syrup, garlic, and lemon juice.
  • Flip salmon, pour marinade on, and cook for another 7 minutes.
  • Let sit for 2 minutes and serve!
